Angry rhetoric comes from being targeted a great deal. Different people’s life experiences have led them to be more or less targeted. Different shades of darkness in one’s skin color or geography can be a reason for differential discrimination. It may be hard to read angry pieces, but they are important because anger is the primary reaction to oppression. Part of that oppression is never letting the oppressed person express their anger, bitterness, and hurt at the oppression.
I applaud these writers. Having read their work, their infinite patience is a blessing. But that is what it is. People are swallowing feelings to “politely” talk about oppression that happens to them. Never stop appreciating that. I am too angry about my own oppression experiences to be polite in my discussions of them.
