For the love of God, this isn’t about Hillary. We have a man who makes fun of disabled people, calls immigrants rapists, wants to stop Muslims from coming into the country, stirs up crowds to frothy, violent fervors while promising to pay their legal fees if they beat protesters, openly says racist things about respected judges, says incredibly misogynistic things about women, the list goes on and on. There are children in this country, remember? They would grow up under a President Trump who has no capacity to self-regulate. His sons would be off shooting endangered species, and we’d hear about that regularly.
He would not only get to fill the open Supreme Court seat, thereby making it a conservative court — again — and we know those don’t do any damage, cough, ahem, Citizens United. He may get to pick another seat as well with very old members of the court. He will likely have a majority Senate — as is predicted — to get his radical nominees put on the bench. He will have a Republican dominated House. Together these very right wing tilted branches of government will pass laws progressives will take years to undo.
This IS NOT about picking the lesser evil. So she’s evil. Oh well. This is about preventing catastrophe. This is about 4th graders learning about their President and not seeing footage of him moving his arms in a gimpy way to mock a reporter. This is about a teen girls not hearing their President say he would have sex with his daughter multiple times, if there was not just that little social norm.
I hate the lesser evil argument. I am one of those progressives who has critiqued Obama’s Rockefeller Republican presidency. But this is beyond the pale. He is stirring up authoritarianism, giving a voice to white supremacists. This essay further explains my own panic about having a Trump candidacy on the world stage.
