I can really relate to your story. Thank you for sharing it. My mom has bipolar disorder, although she has been fairly recovered since turning 60 a decade ago. My father had schizoaffective disorder until he died a decade ago. My father was paranoid, had delusions, and you just had to meet him where he was to have a relationship with him. My mother sounds a bit like your mother, minus a lot of the paranoia. She is a dreamer, a writer, and a would-be social justice advocate if anyone would listen to her. She doesn’t see the world the way most people do, so that makes her odd. She hasn’t always shown the best judgment or been able to function as a parent, but as her symptoms subsided with age, she developed more friendships. I think she is the happiest she’s ever been. I hope your mother experiences some recovery with time as well.
