I used to think it was painful memory that stopped this healing, but I think white supremacy fights to maintain itself independent of any pain it causes/has caused white people in recognizing their status. It continues to inflict pain on people of color in the present, not the past.
The return of formalized white supremacy, now in khakis and a polo shirt, instead of a hood, with their chants of “You will not replace us.” Bolstered by a President who white Americans elected. This is the movement that makes me realize this hegemony comes from a fear of our own white recessive gene. Now, there is a blossoming white separatist movement that essentially puts this fear into words.
