I will give you an example of a lynching to read about that will help you understand how lynchings happened. This lynching is that of Frazier Baker. He was killed in South Carolina, because the people of the town could not handle having a postman deliver their mail to them. It seemed too uppity to have him handle their mail. They were angry the federal government had dared to appoint a black man as their postmaster. So they came to his house and they shot him and his infant son, leaving his widow and five children behind.
