I would ask the conservatives to prove the media is liberal. Almost all of the mainstream media is owned by just a couple major corporations. Those corporations are by and large conservative. Heartland Radio, Clear Channel, Fox, even CNN. MSNBC lets their entire morning go to a conservative. Then, they spent election season dedicating more hours to Trump than any other candidate. So, the total number of hours MSNBC has actual liberal programming during prime time hours is four a day. Just today, until the court case in South Carolina had the jury come back with the remarkable “hung jury” claim (Who is the awful person denying his guilt? Does this person lack eyes?) and the sheriff in Joe McKnight’s death came on, all MSNBC was about was Trump.
So, then there are newspapers. Nearly every local paper is owned by one of the few remaining newspaper conglomerates, and they are conservative. Principled conservatives, but conservative. My hometown paper in Iowa, which I get, probably mentioned Bernie Sanders twice the whole year.
The blogosphere certainly seems equal in terms of liberal and conservative, and there is more conservative fake news according to analysis. Finally, if I had the time, I would be able to find journal articles from universities that study media which demonstrate that there is no liberal bias. Even if the journalists themselves are liberal, they are forced by the institutions they work in to produce conservative content. Would Rachel Maddow normally have covered Donald Trump for half an hour or more of every one of her shows for all of this year?
So, in the end, I would have to say to the conservative. Prove it. Prove there is a liberal bias to anything other than far more facts than they will admit.
