I’m in love with the overall essay above about Jordan Peterson, first of all. I mean seriously. In love!
But I thought I would mention that I am completely certain that bisexuality is not the same as transgender. Like at all. Remotely. Even a little bit. When I was studying gender for my personality psychology prelim exam at University of Michigan, I read numerous pieces on this.
Then, my dissertation ended up being interesting on this point. I was studying mental illness in college students, but I got to talk to 225 students for hours about their mental health in semi-structured interviews. This meant I could hear a life story from a few transgender students as well. It was an NIMH-funded dissertation if you are wondering how I got the resources to do all that. So, anyhow, I believe this is a real phenomenon that occurs in earlier ages than puberty for most kids. As it turns out, doctors have to make a determination in genitalia to go one way or the other in a percentage of cases far higher than I realized. The number is gone from my mind now, because my prelim was 20 years ago, but that’s worth checking. I hope you’ll read some essays by transgender people on Medium. They speak to this, too.
