Is this really the core concept of conservatism? Do conservatives truly value community? They may claim they do, but individualism has been been their cudgel against the poor, disabled, unemployed, sick, minorities, and anyone else otherwise vulnerable since the country started.

One of the key features of conservatives is finding ways to make their group smaller and smaller. Not white, you’re out of the group. Not Christian, you’re out. Not straight. You’re out. The community gets smaller and smaller until you’re joining Glenn Beck in Idaho with a gate around you or Peter Thiel on a floating island.

One of the things I always loved about liberals was they built community. I mean, come on, they are community organizers and communists. If they have to wear that scarlet letter C, they ought to be able to claim their proper place as the ones who care about community. I know it is great reverse psychology to try to sell it to conservatives that they actually care about community, but I’d love to see them prove it rather than just claim it.
