Raise the rafters! Love this. I absolutely can’t stand my family. One rich, racist, sexist uncle who gives a lot of his spare money to the Mormons, because they require it, screamed his whole life that the family and church should take care of people on welfare, not the government. Yet, he was on food stamps himself in the 1970s. He never really helped his sister on welfare with a serious mental illness all that much. He let the government pay for his father’s nursing home care. He complained in jealousy when I got a scholarship to a music camp for 1 and a half days that his son didn’t get to go to the camp. His fucking son lived in the nice city, I lived in the slum. He grew up in a nice house. We grew up with lead paint turns out as they just “remediated” our house for it in exchange for taking my mom’s $35,000 house.
Then, there’s the aunt who posts on Facebook about how Sharia Law is taking over, and the Muslims are coming to get us. I can’t stand this woman. She is so far up Fox News’ ass, she sneezes their chyron. Both of these people show their poor family members the same compassion conservatives show all poor people. Her son recently said, “Your mom should have gotten a lawyer, if she didn’t want to lose her house (referencing the lead remediation).” What a dick! Like she can afford a lawyer. He doesn’t even know his privilege.
I could go on and on, but I think I’ve made my point. My family sucks, too. Ironically, I cope with this by doing a lot of genealogy. See, I figure that there must have been decent family somewhere along the line. And what do you know? President John Adams is my 2nd cousin, 8 times removed. I’ve heard he wasn’t a dick. A few of my other ancestors sound pretty cool, too. So, there’s that. Ha.
