In essence, this liberal noted that an ethnic identity is actually important to everyone. We know this from research study after research study. Look at the consequences of white men trying to stamp out ethnic identity in Native people or in slaves. It is psychologically harmful and backfires almost always.
So what if we tried to foster a form of positive white identity? As suggested by the author of the article above? An identity where taking responsibility for past and present mistakes is front and center?
