Resistance Rantings after the Holidays
Abortion billboards and Project Veritas
Going home for Thanksgiving did not mean getting into an ugly political argument with my relatives like my Trump-loving uncle.
Our extended family, who are very conservative, rejected our family long ago, because my parents each had a serious mental illness and required government assistance. We all got kicked to the curb for not being good enough for the family (if that story interests you, the link is below)
So for years the only irritating political thing about trips home were abortion billboards. So many abortion billboards.
If you live in the city, and you are driving toward your family in the countryside, you must have been bombarded by Pro Life America’s Lying Babies Across the Country billboard campaign.

Many small towns are infested with up to a dozen signs in a small population. People driving past these large signs over and over in their psyche.

These emotionally-manipulative babies are lying to rural-dwelling people, and these people don’t appear to be very good at keeping their emotions in check. Even if they think their opinions are not being shaped by the billboards, I believe they are.
They actually start to believe women are killing babies during an abortion because of these billboards. Are NARAL and Planned Parenthood just ceding the rural landscape to anti-choice sentiments because they have no answer to billboard lies? We can’t do this.
The beauty of the billboard lies is how much conservatives hate life but they don’t have to deal with their own beliefs on a billboard.
They wanted my parents and their six children to die off just as soon as they needed government assistance. We weren’t babies inside pregnant women, so we could just starve to death for all they cared. In fact, I have saved literally years worth of comments, responses, and interactions with conservatives telling me that my family should have just died.
The billboards are a constant reminder to me that conservatives only value your life until you are a baby. After that, they just want to give you the finger.
Nothing exemplifies this conservative mindset better than Project Veritas which just got caught trying to lie to the Washington Post about being a sexual abuse victim of Roy Moore who got an abortion. The group made up the story to discredit the newspaper and the real victims of Roy Moore.
Despite being named Project Truth, the project has been a festival of lies since its beginning with stinging ACORN. ACORN had been helping low-income, minority communities for years. But who did this group target? This most recent lie is hideous for how it tries to take real victims of a pedophile, and make their experience fake. This is all done in the name of “fighting evil.”
The truth is that evil has long ago infested the fundamentalist Christian culture. Pedophilia is rampant and tolerated. My first sex abuse experience came at the hands of the son of a self-declared prophet my mother was following — when I was six.
All of this sexual abuse and sexism is tolerated because at least Roy Moore hates homosexuals, black people, and taxes. That doesn’t make you moral, Republicans. That actually makes you, well, evil. You haven’t recognized what real evil was this whole time. I guarantee you when you are defending pedophiles to get tax breaks for rich people, you have gone off the rails. But what do I know? I’m just a loathsome liberal.
What happened to my family in small-town America was evil. People losing access to healthcare and social services in the name of tax cuts is evil. Instead, we have a political candidate saying that newspapers giving a voice to sex abuse victims is evil as he carries on like a preacher. Americans need to get straight in their hearts what real evil is. They need to get it straight now.
