Thank you so much for asking! You are exactly right. I was supposed to have the surgery in October, but the nurses’s strike we had locally cancelled it. (Still support the nurses). There has been a lot of drama getting it rescheduled including one phone call with me losing it on the phone with the pain clinic, because they forgot to get the procedure authorized with my health insurance company. This is way out of character for me, because I am Mrs. Never-Treat- Employees-on-the-Phone-Badly. But the good news is the surgery is scheduled for one week from today at 7:30 a.m. I am so excited. They won’t turn on the spinal stimulator until a couple days later, but I’ll have pain pills between surgery and then. Right now, I don’t have pain pills.
Did I tell you the story of that? I guess I should be glad I don’t have an addiction to deal with. I was given a quiz when I started at the pain clinic that included questions like “Were you sexually abused before the age of 12?” and “Do you have a diagnosed mental illness?” At the end of the quiz, they informed me I couldn’t be prescribed pain meds, because I was at high risk of addiction. So, basically, I have been living with numerous days of every month feeling like I was in labor (I picked this for a pain equivalent since the drama gets the point across. Ha. Ha.), and many more just shy of that. They’re so cute when they say, “Well, just keep taking ibuprofen.” I did until I had kidney issues, and my creatinine levels were off, and they still did nothing.
So all of this is to say, as a long-winded writer is prone to do, thank you so much for asking. Yes, I have surgery in a week. I am thrilled about it.
